Job Description

Network engineer with security focus and background. Installs, configures, troubleshoots and monitors local and wide area networks and security services. Monitors security logs and activities, and responds to security events and incidents.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Configures, installs, and maintains local and wide area network hardware, software, and telecommunications services such as network operating systems, network software applications, network servers, routers, switches, cabling, and Internet service providers. Monitors and maintains network security and stability.
  • Maintain and administer tools that support the Information Security Program.  Security tools include firewalls, endpoint security/encryption systems, vulnerability scanners, intrusion detection systems, data leakage and web proxy/filtering.
  • Security Incident Response including responding appropriately to incidents and requests in the Security workflow queue. This may include addressing items such as attacks from intruders, denial of service attacks, data leakage incidents, IDS triggers, web proxy filtering, physical security issues, firewall changes, et.  Participate in projects requiring network and security specific expertise. Responsible for delivery of task in accordance with accepted project plans
  • Execute Information Security Processes as defined, such as the Quarterly Vulnerability Assessment (QVA) and the Certificate Management Process. Assist in performing information security program management tasks as assigned, including defining and documenting corporate security policy and procedures, security metrics, and managing the security awareness program.
  • Evaluates network and security hardware/software requirements and capabilities and makes recommendations. Performs analysis of network and security needs and contributes to design of architecture, integration, and installation.  Responsible for network availability as defined by accepted service level agreement.
  • Communicates with other departments to report and resolve software, hardware, and operational issues.  Escalates issues to vendors and management.
  • Monitors and maintains QOS policies.  Administer external DNS records and is responsible for maintaining DNS for all network devices

Knowledge:

  • Router/Switches:  Cisco
  • Load Balancers: Citrix Netscaler
  • Firewalls:  Palo Alto Firewall-1, Cisco ASA
  • VPN:  Cisco ASA, Cisco VPN Concentrator
  • Intrusion Detection Systems:  BTB and others
  • Vulnerability Scanners:  BTB and others
  • Endpoint Security:  Symantec/Guardian Edge
  • Data Leakage:  Trustwave/Vericept
  • Proxy/Content Filter:  ZScaler
  • 3-5 years of LAN and WAN network experience in a Cisco environment
  • Working knowledge of most of the above relevant technologies.

  • Strong background in designing and implementing secure multi-service networks
  •  Action oriented, self-motivated and capable of performing several tasks simultaneously
  • Team player capable of working with minimal direct local supervision

Prior Work Experience and Education:

  • 3 to 5 years of related work experience
  • Bachelor's Degree required In relevant field and/or three or more years of work experience in the computer networking field
  • Cisco CCNA certification preferred, CCNP desired
  • CCIE, CISSP, GIAC, or other security certificates a plus
