Job Description

With a strong technical background in both development and operational support as the Manager, Application Support & Maintenance (ASM) you will be responsible for providing high-quality Level 2 & 3 Support and Maintenance for Radian Group's core products across a number of geographies and market verticals, and spanning a wide range of technologies.

As the Manager, ASM you will also lead a team of Application Support Analysts distributed across Radian's office locations, and be responsible for their development, training, line management, and for ensuring they deliver in their role as the team meets Incident and Problem SLAs in a fast-paced environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Management of a team providing L2, L3 Application Support & Maintenance for core platforms, covering the full technology stack (Java, .NET, SQL Server, Oracle).
  • Investigation of problems, including design, code, test and implementation of fixes.
  • Change / Release support.
  • Ensuring platforms are monitored and have appropriate alerting.
  • Automation of common, repeatable, manual tasks.
  • Research and presentation of ideas for system improvements and contributing to continuous operational/service/lean improvement plans.
  • Working with Delivery Managers and Service Managers to ensure that new core platforms and services are landed with appropriate levels of support.
  • Producing status reports for leadership team.


Job Specifications

Knowledge:

  • Experience of software development, working on major programs across a complex IT environment, and with external outsource vendors.
  • Experience working alongside Development and Operational teams and able to create effective relationships with multiple disciplines.


Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience using the following:
  • Application Lifecycle Management Tools (Jira, Rally, Bitbucket, GitHub/Lab, Jenkins, Bamboo, Chef/Puppet)
  • OOP Language (Java or .NET),
  • Shell &/OR scripting languages
  • Database Development/Management (T-SQL/PLSQL)
  • Application Peformance Monitoring Tools (HP OpenView, Dynatrace, New Relic)
  • Application Logging Tools (Splunk)
     

People Management:

  • Experience of leading a support or technical team of 8+, coordinating activities and ensuring the team members meet their individual and collective goals.
  • Able to guide the team as they work to resolve more advanced issues.
  • Able to manage on-call rotations between team members and ensure all platforms have the needed coverage.

Other Position Parameters:

  • Experience of working in an Agile software environment and applying best practices and different techniques across the software development lifecycle.
  • Automated testing experience using a suite of tools for various test classifications; e.g. unit testing, performance, security, acceptance testing.
  • Able to take ownership of complex technical issues.
  • Able to coordinate changes across Delivery Managers, Service Managers, Capacity Managers, and Change Managers, and their teams, and be capable of handling escalated customer complaints.

Prior Work Experience:

  • 8-10 years of relevant technical work experience.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required with concentration in Math, Science, Computer Science or related field.
  • Master's Degree preferred with a concentration in Computer Science or related field.
