Job Description

The Assistant Vice President, Project and Portfolio Management will provide direct leadership to a team of project managers and product owners (4-6 FTE).This individual will build a team of solution-oriented critical thinkers passionate about helping the business achieve both tactical and strategic objectives. This individual drives a pragmatic approach to operational excellence, project management and portfolio prioritization with a focus on effective and expedient delivery.

What you will do:

  • Evolve a flexible and scalable project governance framework for MIRS initiatives.  Apply a wide range of traditional and agile principles to provide responsive and effective project solutions around budget tracking, scope management, change control, risk assessment, and benefits realization.
  • Refine the IT work request intake process. Evolve business value scoring models, and work with IT capacity managers to refine level 1 work estimation tools. Create procedures for utilizing outputs for high level cost benefit assessments.
  • Work with Product Owners to ensure consistency and quality when utilizing scoring and estimation tools. Develop review protocols and metrics to ensure consistency of application.
  • Facilitate portfolio prioritization activities across business areas and work with IT to understand capacity allocations; highlight areas where capacity is not aligning with business demand and engage leadership to develop mitigation strategies.
  • Track and manage spending against business projects and system enhancements to ensure proper fiscal responsibility and allocation of resources within IT, returning the best ROI. 


Who we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Computer Science or MIS/Information Technology is desirable. 
  •  8-10+ years Project Management experience, preferably with a technology organization. 1-3 years of supervisory experience required.
  • Expert and demonstrable knowledge of project management tools and techniques, including waterfall, agile and agile-hybrid experience.
  • Experience leading portfolio prioritization and capacity planning within business portfolio.
  • 1-3 years of supervisory experience required.
  • Knowledge and experience with Six Sigma DMAIC/DMADV and/or Lean certification is a plus. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and retain a team of highly skilled professionals.  Ability to provide effective leadership, ability to listen, communicate and motivate teams to achieve results.
  • Strong technical and problem solving aptitude with an attention to details

  • Ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical addressees
  • Excellent communications skills: written, verbal, group presentations

  • Ability to drive end-to-end process walkthroughs to baseline processes and identify changes / impacts
  • Promote process improvement and be an advocate for change
  • Comfortable operating in an environment with a considerable amount of ambiguity


People Management:

  • The Process Engineer AVP will have  between 1-4 direct reports. Preferred location would be corporate office in Philadelphia.


Prior Work Experience

  • Technical:   8 - 10 years
  • Supervisory:   1 - 3 years


Education and Credentials

  • Preferred:  Bachelor’s Degree
  • Other Certifications:  PMP, CSPO, CSM and/or Green Belt/Blackbelt is a plus
