Job Description

The Director of Pricing and Valuation will oversee the development, maintenance, and enhancement of all pricing analytic tools utilized in the evaluation and strategy formation for the Mortgage Insurance and Risk Service business. This role will primarily focus on analyzing and structuring new credit risk products aimed to create best execution scenarios relative to other delivery options. In addition, he/she will assist and provide guidance to a team of analysts responsible for the surveillance, competitive position evaluation, and pricing analysis as required to provide senior management with relevant information and forecasts regarding return on capital, risk sensitivities, and other profitability impacts. The Director Pricing and Valuation will help form firm strategy on portfolio composition and performance, optimize risk vs. reward, and assist in creating a product suite that will allow Radian to remain competitive and positioned as a market leader in the industry.

Job Qualifications

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain all pricing frameworks utilized to evaluate and formulate pricing strategies
  • Structured deal analysis and design
  • Market surveillance and reporting
  • Provide leadership and direction to team of 2 to 4 analysts.
  • Ad-hoc pricing analysis 


  • High proficiency in mortgage pricing and credit, a good understanding of the capital markets and depth of knowledge across the primary and secondary mortgage markets. 
  • Strong understanding of mortgage credit and products, pricing credit risk and managing portfolio risk. 
  • Strong understanding of return on capital, valuation concepts, and prepayment and default drivers (cash flow impacts) as they relate to financial models, pricing, and the mortgage market in general. 
  • In-depth understanding of best execution analysis across various secondary marketing execution types, both Agency (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae) and Non-Agency. 
  • Knowledge of mortgage trading and trading concepts from a secondary market perspective (whole loan and MBS).

Skills and Abilities

  • High level of proficiency/mastery in Python, SAS, and/or VBA as tools for analysis and report development
  • Ability to clearly communicate results across all levels of the organization
  • Very strong data mining capabilities and experience
  • Must possess a high level of problem solving ability as well as an understanding of Agency products and pricing.
  • Prior experience or ability to manage or provide leadership to a team of 2 to 4 analysts in support of the Pricing Group functions. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). 
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships across all levels of the organization and with outside personnel.
  • Diplomacy, leadership and confidence are important.
  • Ability to work in a fast-pace business environment with excellent communication skills. 
  • Creative and innovative thinking with a strong work ethic and the desire to succeed within a very competitive environment.
