Job Description

The Vice President (VP), Underwriting Transformation will be responsible for leading Radian’s efforts to leverage mortgage industry technology, tools and data to assess the capabilities of Radian’s current internal underwriting processes and determine business needs for continued process and technology improvements. This position will work proactively to improve performance across Radian Underwriting function through reshaping processes, transforming the organization and using enabling technology effectively. The VP, Underwriting Transformation will orchestrate a collaborative effort with other functional areas (MIRS Underwriting Operations, TM Underwriting Operations, Information Technology, Data Strategy, and Credit Policy) to build an optimal infrastructure to provide underwriting solutions, create process efficiencies that enhance operational productivity and workflow and increase customer satisfaction. This position will create and use best practices to identify, align and change factors that affect organizational performance, stability and teaming to develop comprehensive strategic and tactical transformational recommendations. The VP, Underwriting Transformation must be an innovative, forward-thinking problem solver with a thorough understanding of mortgage loan origination technologies and be capable of independently driving large cross-functional initiatives and creating a culture of operational excellence.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the collaborative effort with other functional areas (MIRS Underwriting Operations, TM Underwriting, Information Technology, Data Strategy, and Credit Policy) to build an optimal infrastructure to provide underwriting solutions.
  • Assess Radian’s existing delegated and non-delegated, and QC underwriting processes, including operational and system capabilities.
  • Determine business needs and opportunities for continued process and technology improvements focused on automation and process efficiency to maximize capacity optimization , improve application workflow and increase customer satisfaction
  •  Serve as subject matter expert  on innovative mortgage industry technology solutions, tools, and data (including the GSE Uniform Mortgage Data Program), and evaluate the cost / benefit of utilizing these tools and incorporating impactful data into Radian’s underwriting processes
  • Explore opportunities to integrate with mortgage lenders and vendors (e.g., loan origination system providers, 3rd party data sources) to drive process efficiency and automation, for instance, leveraging automated tools in lieu of document collection and review; identifying opportunities to work with lenders to increase data sharing at the time of application and/or at other milestones of the loan life cycle
  •  Focus on change management and the cultural indoctrination of operational excellence by leading collaborative, cross-functional technical projects that support the redesign of business processes and the leveraging of industry tools and data
  •  Create and use best practices to identify, align and change factors that affect organizational performance, stability and teaming to develop comprehensive strategic and tactical transformational recommendations
  •  Work with technology and operations teams to organize data and outputs of review performed to ensure ability to seamlessly report back information and interact using Digital platforms


Job Specifications

Knowledge:

  • Thorough knowledge of mortgage underwriting
  • Extensive background in industry / GSE automated underwriting systems, 3rd party data sources, and business / technology solutions
  • Experience and working knowledge with various loan origination systems and other 3rd parties (ADP, The Work Number, etc)
  • General understanding of mortgage banking and mortgage insurance
  • Experience in quality control, risk management, loss management, origination systems or other operations functions

  • Supervisory:   5 - 8 years


Education and Credentials

  • Required:    Bachelor’s Degree
  • Preferred:    Master’s Degree,  Concentration in or significant relevant experience
