Job Description

As a general staff accountant role you will help to support the Accounting and Statutory Reporting team in analyzing and reconciling general ledger accounts, helping to complete reports and financial statement schedules, and completing daily and/or monthly financial statement closing related tasks. You will also work collaboratively with others in the Controller's Group and other business leaders to enhance efficiency and effectiveness through a focus on continuous process improvement and advanced technological solutions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the accounting team with month-end and quarter-end close processes (including journal entries, reconciliations, etc.)
  • Support Statutory and GAAP reporting for Mortgage Insurance and/or Services segments including preparation/filing of the quarterly/annual statutory financial statements, supplemental STAT filings, 10Q/10K schedules, and other materials.
  • Help to maintain processes, policies, and procedures over Mortgage Insurance and Services accounting and reporting to ensure robust and efficient workflows and controls that help to support the overall organization and to drive efficiencies, including through implementation of advanced technology.
  • Provide support and responses for recurring audits and regulatory examinations related to Mortgage Insurance and Services filings.
  • Other related duties as assigned, including coordination with and support of other Finance functions (e.g., Tax, SEC Reporting, FP&A, etc.)

Job Specifications


  • Accounting background/education.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP; knowledge of Statutory Accounting Practices and Procedures (SSAP) a plus.
  • Working knowledge of accounting systems and controls (knowledge of system implementations and accounting systems such as Oracle Cloud Financials a plus).
  • Familiarity with SEC accounting/reporting requirements as relates to financial services and/or insurance companies a plus.
  • Knowledge of internal control framework standards such as COSO.
  • Experience and knowledge within real estate/mortgage/insurance industry a plus.

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to convey ideas clearly and concisely in both verbal and written communications.
  • Analytical and technical skills as relates to accounting, finance, and internal controls are critical to success.
  • Ability to work under continual deadline constraints and handle multiple projects at once.
  • Solid organizational, decision-making, and problem solving skills.

Other Position Parameters:

  • Team-oriented, with the highest commitment to ethics, integrity, and excellence.
  • CPA/"Big 4" Public Accounting background a plus.

  • Technical:   1 - 3 years
